First Baptist Church has a desire to see people grow both spiritually as well as physically. So over 30 years ago, the church invested in the physical health of its members and of the surrounding community by building a facility that could be utilized for the purpose of strengthening the individual. Ground was broken at the corner of N. 2nd and Orange in September of 1979 under the leadership of pastor James Flamming, and the Family Life Center opened in August of 1981.
The Family Life Center is designed to provide activities for all ages. From skating and bowling to basketball and racquetball, from the walking track to the fitness center, all of these areas combine to provide a safe and wholesome place for people of all ages to get fit and enjoy doing it. Our recent renovations (August 2011 – June 2012) have significantly updated the building. We are now able to accommodate our patrons in a modernized environment. The FLC also features Abilene’s newest bowling alley!
The FLC sponsors team sports ranging from kids basketball and flag football to adult basketball and softball. Opportunities abound for you to find your level of participation.

Fitness
Our weight room offers a full range of Nautilus weight machines as well as dumbbell sets ranging from 5 lbs to 80 lbs. The cardio room now features five new treadmills and individual TV monitors for each treadmill. Our racquetball court has been recently resurfaced and is a favorite among many of our fitness members. The fitness center also houses an indoor, climate controlled, 1/16 mile walking track which is positioned above the basketball court. The locker rooms have been fully renovated since August 2011 with new fixtures, tile and lighting, and heaters and benches for the saunas.
In order to use the fitness center, you must be a fitness member, even if you are a member of First Baptist Church. Our rates are some of the most reasonable rates in town and are listed below. There is no registration fee or contract!!! Ask about our rates for First Baptist Church members and staff at the FLC front desk or call 325-675-8144.

Bowling
The bowling alley at the Family Life Center offers Brunswick GS pinsetters with an automatic scoring system. The room has tables with four chairs for each lane but the scorer will support up to 8 bowlers per lane. The bowling alley is open daily for individuals and families to come bowl at $3 per person per game or $12/hour for up to 5 bowlers (shoes are always included). Skating
The skating rink is a great place for family fun, and it’s very affordable at $2 per person. This fee includes skates if you aren’t bringing your own and entitles you to skate for as long as the rink is available. The skating rink is also available for parties and other events. Game Room
The game room now has a new billiard table in addition to the previous one, as well as a new foosball table and ping pong table. New tables and chairs are in the area as well as a big screen TV and a small lounge area for coffee. The game room is always available as long as the building is open, and billiards, foosball and ping pong are free to play. There are also a few coin-operated games.

Basketball
The basketball court at the Family Life Center is one of the nicest such facilities in town. Leagues are available at many different levels from children to adults. It is open all day except when it is reserved. Call for availability at 325-675-8144.
